Plain Watermelon: The Easiest Cool Treat for Dogs

Sometimes the best treat isn't a recipe at all. It's just a slice of watermelon. No blending, no freezing, no ingredient list to double check. Watermelon is mostly water, genuinely refreshing on a hot day, and most dogs go a little bit feral for it.

Before you hand it over

Cut out the seeds. They're a choking hazard and can cause digestive trouble if your dog swallows a bunch of them. Skip the rind too. It's tough to digest and can upset a dog's stomach.

Prepare for a mess

This is not a tidy snack. Watermelon juice goes everywhere once a dog gets into it. Lay down towels or puppy pads first if you'd rather not clean up afterward. If you don't care, just let it happen and hose off the patio when they're done. Have a ball with it either way.

Grab a camera

Genuinely, get the camera out before you start. Few things are funnier than watching your furbaby devour a slice of watermelon face first. You'll want those pictures.

Quick safety check: seeds out, rind off, and don't let a dog with diabetes or weight concerns overdo it. Watermelon has natural sugar, so it's a treat, not an all-day snack.
